F1 Racing Flags
Chequered Flag
The race has finished - shown to the winner first and every driver thereafter. Despite the number of laps completed, the race is over for every competitor.
Red Flag
The race has been stopped either because a car is in a dangerous position or driving conditions have deteriorated sufficiently to stop the race.
Yellow Flag
Overtaking is prohibited due to danger ahead. A single waved yellow informs a driver to slow down whereas two waved flags warns the driver they must be prepared to stop.
Blue Flag
When shown, indicates that a faster car behind is waiting to overtake. Penalty points are incurred if the driver is shown the heading flag more than three times. F1 drivers are not required to make way for cars trying to overtake.
Black Flag
Show with the car's number to a driver for immediate return to the pits normally due to a rule infringement. Race disqualification normally follows this flag.
Red & Yellow Vertically Striped Flag
When shown indicates a slippery track due to water or oil.
Green Flag
The hazard is no longer there and racing can continue normally.
Black Flag With An Orange Disk
Shown with a car number to indicate immediate return to the pits due to mechanical problem.
White & Black Diagonal Halves Flag
Shown with a car number for unsportsman like conduct. A black flag may result if the warning is ignored.
White Flag
Warns of a slow moving, non-race vehicle on the track.
